About

About us

Jay has been passionate about growing delicious fruit his whole life. In 2019, he finally got his own property to start doing so. Jay’s passion for fruit led him to learn how to graft and root his own plants. He started a state licensed and inspected nursery in 2023 and officially named the business French Hill Fruit Trees in 2025.

Jay has grown his collection of unique varieties and is proud to make them available to New England gardeners.

About our plants

We’ve specifically sought out unique varieties that will grow well in New England. Varieties are chosen for flavor and ease of care. We then take extra care in propagating the plants to provide healthy plants with great root systems.

We overwinter all of our grafted plants ourselves before offering them for sale. Many other nurseries will sell grafted persimmons in the fall the same year they are grafted. The first winter is the highest risk for young trees, so we would rather take that risk for you. All overwintering plants are given a fall fertilizer boost after they go dormant so they are are ready to take off for you in the spring.

Sustainability

Plastic waste is a huge issue in the nursery trade. Even though we are a small operation, we want to minimize our impact. We use biodegradable fiber pots wherever possible. In addition to being environmentally friendly, they are great for the health of the plants. We also use wooden labels, and use degradable twist ties instead of plastic tape.

Currently, persimmons are our only crop that uses plastic pots for final retail sale. We have yet to find a fiber pot that can accommodate their deep root structure. If you bring these pots back, we can re-used them and keep them out of the landfill. All other plastic containers and plug trays are reused from year to year.
